Travolta to receive German honour

US actor John Travolta is to receive one of Germany's top entertainment honours, the Golden Camera.

The Pulp Fiction star will collect the award for best international actor at a ceremony in Berlin on 5 February.

Travolta, 56, was praised by German listings magazine Horzu, organisers of the awards, as "one of the greatest actors in the world".

Previous winners of the honour include Bruce Willis, Nicolas Cage and Richard Gere, last year's recipient.

"The way John Travolta chooses his roles and the variety of characters he portrays shows a lot of courage," said Horzu.

"He doesn't follow the same pattern and always shows us a different face. By doing that he continues to amaze his audience."

"Receiving the Golden Camera best actor international award is a huge honour for me," said Travolta.

"I take great pride in my work and it's wonderful to have it recognised in such a way.

"It's going to be great to accept this award in person next month," he added.

Recipients of the other international awards, which include prizes for best actress, best music artist and lifetime achievement, have yet to be announced.

Now in its 46th year, the Golden Cameras reward excellence in film, television and music.

The award itself is an 18-carat, gold-plated replica of the first electronic TV camera.

Last November Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston had a baby boy, named Benjamin.

"Over the past few months so many positive things have happened to my family and me," the actor said in a statement.
