Verdict: Strong premise, weak execution
After too lengthy a preamble where nothing happens, Cold Weather develops into an intriguing little mystery thriller, as two amiable slackers who are fans of Sherlock Holmes (Cris Lankenau and Raul Castillo) attempt to use detection to track down a missing friend.
Some will respond to the film’s mumbling minimalism and there is something mildly heart-warming in seeing aimless individuals gaining a sense of purpose.
Cold weather leaves the audience cold: Despite admirable influences of Conan Doyle and Raymond Chandler, the film cannot live up to its hopes
Writer-director Aaron Katz elicits a few smiles as his heroes puff on a pipe in a vain attempt to activate their brain cells.
But the film fails to deliver a story exciting or intelligent enough to match its Conan Doyle and Raymond Chandler influences.
