Chris Fountain: 'Dancing On Ice is cruel'

The 23-year-old, who starred on the ITV1 skating show in 2008, complained it would have been devastating to have been given the chop having trained for the show for months.

This year Nadia Sawalha, Angela Rippon, Elen Rivas and Craig McLachlan left the series after its first and second shows after losing out in the public vote.

Chris said: "I think it's really cruel that they are putting out two people."

The actor, who is set to join Coronation Street as Jack and Vera Duckworth's grandson Tommy, added: "You train for so long, you get so geared up it, it sort of changes your life - you think you know about ice skating. To go in the first week must be absolutely devastating."

He also reckoned that the competition was harder on the male contestants that the female stars.

Speaking on This Morning today he said: "The guys really have to concentrate, not only on yourself but you have to lead your partner, make sure you don't drop her."

The former Hollyoaks star, who was partnered with Frankie Poultney, added: "You've got to make sure you know what your feet are doing, then your step sequences... you've got to perform it, be a showman and smile which is what everyone wants to see.

"The girls have got a completely different job because they have to completely trust their partner."
