They've never been the best of friends.
But in an upcoming storyline, Ian Beale will be seen taking his EastEnders rivalry with Phil Mitchell to the extreme when he leaves him for dead after Phil suffers a heart attack.
In new pictures, Ian (Adam Woodyatt) can be seen mixing himself a drink as Phil (Steve McFadden) writhes around on the floor of the club in agony.
Rivalry: Ian Beale can be seen leaving Phil Mitchell for dead as he has a heart attack in the club
Ian's decision comes after viewers have seen him blackmailed by Phil, who has found out about his affair with Glenda Mitchell (played by Glynis Barber), who Phil is also sleeping with.
Glynis told Inside Soap magazine: 'Phil is having a passionate encounter with Glenda in the club when he collapses.
'When Ian walks in and sees Phil on the floor, he rushes Glenda out - pointing out it would be a bad idea if she's seen with Phil.
In pain: Ian pours himself a drink as Phil writhes around on the floor in agony
'She just presumes that Ian will take care of things while she gets out of there and rings the ambulance. If Glenda knew what Ian was really going to do, she'd be horrified.'
And while Glenda thinks Phil is on his way to the hospital, she is completely unaware that inside the club, Ian is taking great delight in telling Phil how much of a misery he had made his life.
Ian then gets away from the club, leaving Phil inside to die.
Affair: Phil has been blackmailing Ian after finding out about his affair with Glenda, who he is also sleeping with
Passion: The pair are in the middle of a passionate embrace when Phil collapses
Glynis added: 'Glenda calls an ambulance beforehand, and it does arrive eventually.
'So she assumes that Phil is on his way to hospital and leaves again. She has absolutely no idea what Ian is really up to.'
The scenes will be shown on EastEnders next Friday, 28th January.
