Louis Walsh is claiming that both Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole are quitting the X Factor to front the U.S. version - leaving the door open for Dannii Minogue's arch enemy Sharon Osborne to return to the show.

The Irish music mogul told the News Of The World: 'It will be me and Dannii with two more people.'

According to the paper, ITV bosses are desperately trying to stop Cowell and Cole from quitting the show, but both see doing both shows as untenable.

Round two: Dannii Minogue be forced to work with her nemesis again on The X Factor if Louis Walsh's claims are true

Claims: Louis, seen here arriving at Britian's Got Talent auditions in London last week, claims both Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell are quitting X Factor in the UK

A source said: 'Simon's priority is making the U.S. X Factor the biggest TV show in the world. Cheryl wants to have a life. She doesn't want to spend two days a week on flights across the Atlantic.'

Dannii, 39, and Sharon, 58, have been at loggerheads ever since they first appeared on the show together in 2007. Osbourne quit after just one season with her younger rival, saying claiming she couldn't work with Minogue.

Dannii meanwhile claimed in her autobiography that Osbourne had bullied her.

Sharon had been on the X Factor from when the show launched in 2004 and made her return to the show last year as Louis's guest mentor on the judges' houses rounds of the show.

A host of other stars stars meanwhile are said to be putting their names into the frame to replace the Cowell and Cole however.

Bookies have already installed Gary Barlow as the 4-1 favourite, followed by Robbie Williams, James Corden and Elton John.

However, Ronan Keating, 33, seems more likely due to his connection with Louis - who managed Boyzone - and the fact that he has been a judge on the Australian version.

Others being tipped to replace Cheryl include guest judges from the last series Katy Perry and Nicole Scherzinger, along with Mel B.

Last night a spokesperson for Cowell said: 'How his role with The X Factor UK will work is still being discussed.'

Previously, Cowell had said that he would commute between the UK and the U.S. and do both shows, saying that if Strictly Come Dancing judges Len Goodman and Bruno Toniolo could manage juggling the British show with Dancing With The Stars in the State, so could he.

He has already quit as judge of American Idol to launch the show this autumn.

There are rumours that ITV may even move the scheduling of the X Factor to spring 2012 in a bid to keep both Cowell and Cole.

But just this week, a spokesperson for the show said: 'We are absolutely planning for The X Factor to return this autumn and next year with Simon Cowell in both an on-screen and production role.'
