Animated gnomes top UK film chart

An adaptation of Romeo and Juliet featuring animated gnomes was the top film in UK and Ireland last weekend.

Gnomeo and Juliet - which features songs by Sir Elton John, its executive producer - took £2.94m between Friday and Sunday.

Bafta-winning film The King's Speech remained steady at two for a second week.

Disney fairy-tale Tangled, based on the story of Rapunzel, slipped from one down to three.

True Grit, the Coen brothers' take on a novel previously filmed with John Wayne, made its debut at four with takings of £1.82m.

Yogi Bear - in which Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake voice the title character and his sidekick Boo Boo - was another new entry at five.

Romcom Just Go With It, starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, entered the chart at six, while Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan fell three places to seven.

Boxing biopic The Fighter, dystopian drama Never Let Me Go and caving thriller Sanctum rounded out this week's Top 10.
