Day to night: Catherine swapped her ladylike suit and hat for a glamorous black bandage dress

The 41-year-old went out sans stockings, showing off her toned legs, and added a stunning emerald and diamond necklace.

The bandage dress, retailing for around £985, has been a favourite on the red carpet for celebrities for several years for it's ability to flatter most body shapes.

Catherine has stepped out in variations of the style on several occasions.

They weren't the only A-listers dining at Gordon Ramsay's restaurant last night.

Guy Ritchie was spotted leaving the hotel, and the Duchess of York and her daughter Princess Beatrice were also seen enjoying the upmarket fare.

Her husband Michael, who earlier beamed with pride as Catherine was presented her CBE by Prince Charles, was stylish in a charcoal suit and open-neck black shirt.

The couple were in great spirits as they arrived at the upmarket establishment from the Duke's Hotel, where they are staying.

Michael was sporting a painful-looking bloodshot eye last night, but didn't let the ailment stop him from toasting his wife.

The 66-year-old Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps star is believed to have been the sender of a jaw-dropping bouquet of flowers that where delivered to the their St James hotel that afternoon.

The couple were joined at the ceremony, held at Buckingham Palace, by their children Dylan and Carys.

The former Darling Buds Of May star had sported an elegant taupe suit with matching hat and gold Louboutins.

After receiving her award, she said: 'It means a lot to come home with my family and to be honoured in this way - very emotional, rather nervous I must say, and it was worth (it) to have Michael in good health to be able to enjoy it (with me).'

The actress also revealed that she had chatted to the Prince about her husband's health and recent battle with throat cancer and said Charles had expressed his sympathy.

She added: 'Obviously we talked about Michael. The last time I saw His Royal Highness, Michael had just got his treatment so he was concerned, but he was very happy to hear... he's well on the road to recovery.'

Careful where you pin that, Charles: The actress was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace
