Prime Minister David Cameron got a 'surreal' surprise today when he bumped into American actor David Hasselhoff.

The new Britain's Got Talent judge was enjoying a tour of Parliament by David Morris, Conservative MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale when the Tory leader pulled up in his car.

A stunned Cameron was then introduced to the Baywatch star by Morris - who happened to have a scheduled meeting with the PM at Downing Street later this afternoon.

The 58-year-old singer/actor even referred to Cameron as 'buddy' and the pair posed for a photograph together outside the Commons.

A proud Hasselhoff then posted the photo on his Twitter and Facebook pages, joking Cameron was starstruck by his presence.

He wrote on Twitter: 'It's amazing the people who ask for a photo with me...

'I can't go anywhere without people stopping me and asking to take a photo with me... Even Prime Ministers! Ha ha.'

Morris' aide told the BBC: 'The Hoff came over for lunch and the funny thing was that David Morris was supposed to be going to Downing Street in the afternoon.

'He said to the Hoff "Why don't you autograph a photo for David Cameron?" He did so and, just at the moment he was doing so, a bulletproof Daimler pulled up into New Palace Yard and out stepped David Cameron.

'The prime minister asked what he was here for and the Hoff replied: "To see you, buddy."'

A spokesman said the Prime Minister was 'bemused' by the brief meeting.

Hasselhoff has been helping Morris promote a campaign to restore the Morecambe Winter Gardens, which has been closed since 1977.

We will have to wait and see if Cameron tunes in to watch Hasselhoff's Britain's Got Talent debut when it starts on ITV1 in the Spring.

In an interview last year, the PM admitted he watched a lot of television  - particularly favouring Sunday night shows, Waking The Dead and Silent Witness.

He told the Radio Times: 'Two nights a week at least after we've eaten we'll watch the telly. I still watch quite a lot of television.'

Meanwhile, his wife Samantha was on a visit to the Lighthouse Group, a Christian charity youth project in Reading today, which works with teenagers that have been excluded from mainstream education.

After a spot of birdbox-building she sat down for a game of cards with the teenagers and seemed perfectly at ease as she chatted and shared jokes.
