Organisers hope for a "surge" in younger music fans at this year's Llangollen International Eisteddfod with a line-up which includes pop band McFly.
They will close the event, which runs from 4-10 July, after organisers talked of taking a "brave leap forward".
Eisteddfod chief executive Mervyn Cousins said he hoped this would take the festival to "new heights".
Other performers include Lulu and English tenor Russell Watson.
Mr Cousins said: "Llangollen attracts a healthy and varied audience every year.
"With McFly joining our fantastic line up this year we expect a surge in our numbers of young audience members, taking our festival to new heights.
"This is a very exciting time for us."
He said organisers felt McFly were "just perfect" for the "coveted slot" to close the festival on Sunday, 10 July.
The band have sold millions of records worldwide and enjoyed numerous number one singles and albums.
More than 4,000 competitors from more than 50 countries are taking part in this year's eisteddfod, which is celebrating its 65th anniversary.
Mr Cousins said other new events for this year included a folk day on the Friday.
"This year's programme sees an even more eclectic mix of names and competitors, with a hugely exciting array of performers through the week," he said.
