Radio 1's Dave Vitty - sidekick to breakfast show DJ Moyles - blurted out the news yesterday after being voted off on Sunday night.
He told listeners: "It's not over for me - I'm going on the Dancing on Ice tour."
Guest Andi Peters, who broke his ankle on the rink show in 2007, butted in: "You weren't supposed to say that - there is going to be an official announcement in two weeks."
The slip came just hours after Dave, 36, was booted off the show on Sunday night.
Last night, he told TV Biz that tiredness was part of the reason he ended up in a bottom two skate-off with Kerry Katona.
The dad of one, partnered on the show by Frankie Poultney, said: "I just need some kip.
"The schedule has been tough. It's been a struggle fitting it all in with work and travelling. We were giving it a good go, but the others have youth on their side."

He told us: "I was walking down the street the other day and Barbara came up to me and said, 'Oh darling you are doing so well on that show'. Then she pointed at herself and said, 'It's Barbara by the way'.
"I walked off and, working on three hours' sleep, I thought, 'Did that really happen?'."
Dave said he had found his TV fame "weird but nice".
He added: "I have done the radio thing for so long and enjoyed the privileged position of having all that's good with being well-known, but not getting recognised in Tesco.
"And now it's a bit weird. Suddenly people say, 'Look, it's him from Dancing On Ice'. But everyone has been lovely.
"And the stuff on Twitter has been amazing. I am fully aware that the reason I lasted this long is because of the support from Radio 1 and elsewhere.
"The fans have been great, although I don't know what happened this weekend!
"There are other people who we were up against at a similar level in the table, like Denise Welch and Kerry Katona, who has a massive following." Dave was a Dancing on Ice fan before appearing. He joked: "I haven't had a life for years. This has been my Sunday night - a take-away with a bottle of wine with the wife and Dancing on Ice.
"X Factor finishes - what's next? Dancing On Ice, jungle or whatever, we watch them all."
He said of bitchy judge Jason Gardiner: "I thought his comments weren't too bad.
"We did six shows and five routines. On balance, I thought he was a lot nicer to me than I first thought.
"We fell out of love a bit last week and then this week the same, but I wasn't surprised by anything he said. Secretly you want to impress him."
On becoming the eighth contestant to leave the competition, Dave admitted: "The thing you were dreading has finally happened - but now in the light of day I am looking forward to getting some kip and seeing my wife and daughter.
"It's been brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed it."
He tipped Sam Attwater, Chloe Madeley or Johnson Beharry to win. He said: "Johnson is a hero and his story is incredible.
"What he achieves each week is amazing. It may not be the most skilled person who wins this year but someone who has made real progress, like Johnson. People love a journey."
